The next level of realism for DAZ Studio is here. To create images of stunning realism we need to use a renderer that simulates light and material based on the laws of physics. Most renderers included with 3D programs don't do that. Poser Edition also available.

Reality 4 is a program and plugin that seamlessly integrates with DAZ Studio, providing physically-accurate rendering. Reality 4 converts materials and lights to physics-based versions, and renders 3D scenes using LuxRender, the benchmark of physical accuracy in the 3D world.

Reality 4 is a major update from Reality 2 for DAZ Studio, and it provides a set of powerful new tools that help you obtain the highest level of realism possible.

Reality 4.1 brought dozens of new features and improvements. Here are the top 10 features:

  • What’s new in version 4.2
    • "Revert to original" now can be applied to multiple materials.

  • What’s new in version 4.2.1
    • Simpler than before. The scene file name is gone. Now, all you have to do is to specify the image file name that you want and then click the "Render" button.
    • New look is cleaner and makes the Reality window easier to read.
    • Startup scene for DAZ Studio. Load the scene, add your character, select the camera, render. Excellent lighting without effort.
    • No math for you! The "Color Math" texture is now called "Texture Combine." A more descriptive name can help.
    • Simpler glass. What was named "Transmission" now is "Tint." Again, a more descriptive name helps in knowing what the property does. Reality is all about being artist-friendly.
    • Metal improvements. The default Metal conversion renders more realistically than before and it automatically enables the "Custom Metal" option if the host's material had an image map in it.
    • Copy/Paste commands added to the right-click menu, as they were in Reality 2.x.
    • Added the ability to use an Automatic Preset just to change the material type.
    • Added option to use TIFF files for IBL.
  • Fixes in version 4.2.1
    • Camera synchronization between DAZ Studio and Reality is now fixed.
    • Camera issues when loading a DAZ Studio scene have been resolved.
    • Error message about "no light source" when loading a scene saved with Reality 4.0 has been resolved.
    • Improved reliability of the light editor.
    • Fixed bug that prevented using bump maps with the Water material
    • Many other fixes.

    Reality runs on both OS X (Mac OS) and Windows. Your license gives you access to both versions. The license also gives you access to the 32- and 64-bit versions of Reality for Windows and 64-bit version for Mac.

Do everything inside the app you know and love and obtain results that rival the ones provided by tools that cost thousands of dollars.

    Reality seamlessly and automatically converts the scene’s materials and lights to provide you with physics-based versions.

    You need real metal for a hero’s blade? Just right-click and convert the material to Metal. Select a preset and you’re done. Photo-realistic metal at your fingertips.

    It’s just as easy to create photo-realistic glass. Just right-click and select Glass. No need to work with cumbersome shaders that never get close to the realism that you deserve.

    You know how hard it is to create believable water in 3D. Not with Reality: right-click on a material, select Water and you’re done.


    A library of hundreds of Automatic Presets for popular characters and objects is included with Reality. For example, add Victoria 6 to your scene, and the Reality materials for the figure are set automatically. Just add light and render. The same is for V4, M4, Rio, Charlie-Neve, Dawn, Dusk, Domina and many others. You can create your own presets and share them or sell them. Reality also provides support for the Gen3 figures (V3, M3, A3 etc), injecting new life into content that still has a lot to offer.

    In addition to the Automatic Presets, the new Universal Presets can be applied to any material in your scene. You can save any number of presets and use them at any time with just a click of the mouse.

    LuxRender, the renderer used by Reality, can use all the CPU cores in your computer. You can also add any number of render nodes either in a local network or via Internet.

    Reality and LuxRender are compatible with 32- and 64-bit processors for Windows and 64-bit processors for MAC, allowing you to access all the memory in your system.
